The patient was very crowded on his lower arch. To correct the patient bite long term and his investment of his new upper smile, Dr. Friedman placed the patient in lower traditional braces for 6 months. This corrected the patients bite and will also keep him from chipping and grinder his new upper porcelain. What a transformation and great smile!

Steve wanted a straighter, whiter smile. Dr. Friedman spoke to the patient about upper porcelain veneers to enhance his smile. The patient had an existing cross bite which over time damaged the patient’s upper teeth. Dr. Friedman first had to straighten his lower teeth & “make room” for the new upper veneers restorations. Dr. Friedman explained to the patient, “If your current bite damaged your natural teeth, why wouldn’t it damage your new ones?” The patient was placed in lower traditional braces for 5 months before his upper porcelain restorations were placed. The patient now has a beautiful, natural smile as well as his bite being corrected & placed in the correct position to not cause any wear on his new smile.

When this patient was ready for her smile make-over she knew exactly who she wanted for her dentist because Dr. Friedman has already restored the smile of her grandmother, uncle, and other family members. This patient did not particularly like her smile and wanted the space closed between her front two teeth. This patient also had a very strong muscle (frenum) that caused her front two teeth to separate and restricted her upper lip from raising when she smiled.
During her complimentary smile consultation, Dr. Friedman discussed braces with a surgical procedure (frenectomy) to release the muscle above her two front teeth. The patient and mother were not interested in braces and wanted porcelain for her smile. Dr. Friedman completed the frenectomy along with miner gingivectomy (removal of extra gum tissue), and placed upper 8 porcelain veneers giving the patient a natural beautiful smile.

You may recognize this face as the amazing 3rd baseman that played for the Padres, but to us he is one of our fun loving patients with now a great smile. His existing smile was worn giving him what appeared to be a reverse smile line. This patient lives fairly far from the practice but when she was ready to replace her existing implant crown and add another, she knew driving far was not going to be a factor.
She lost her front tooth, #9, as well as #10 (to the right of #9) many years ago and had a porcelain fused to metal implant placed in #9’s place and a tooth attached to it for #10. You can see how the metal tints the gums and gives a dark show through effect as our gums are transparent in color.
Dr. Friedman replaced her existing implant crown for #9 with an all porcelain custom screw and an all porcelain implant crown without the use of any metal materials. Dr. Friedman also placed a new titanium implant for her #10 along with the same materials for the implant crown and screw as mentioned above for #9. Dr. Friedman completed her smile by adding new porcelain veneer restorations to teeth, #7 & #8, giving her a more natural, youthful smile. What a beautiful patient inside and out.

This patient was born with this adult tooth permanently missing. Dr. Friedman let the parents know at a very early age that their son would need a dental implant when he got to an age that his face was mature enough to invest in a dental implant. Dr. Friedman made this patient an appliance, (non-removable), after he lost his baby tooth to hold the space until he was ready for an implant. His before and after photos are a great example of how natural a dental implant should look. This patient is also a great example of why dental x-rays are taken and needed to diagnose a patient. If we would have not had an initial x-ray, we would have not known this patient was missing one of his permanent teeth.

Arezo was born with a baby, (primary) tooth only on the right side of her smile that other dentists tried to make look normal with bonding over the years. Upper Left Pinhole Surgery for Gum Recession;
This patient had significant gum recession on the upper left side of her smile. This recession was causing severe sensitivity to cold and over time bone loss. Dr. Friedman completed the new Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique on her under conscious sedation. The patient felt little to no discomfort and the procedure was completed without the use of stitches, tissue grafts, or cutting compared to traditional gum grafts. The pictures below show the upper left quadrant before and after the procedure.

This review is lengthy, but worth the read. I want people to know the life altering work of Dr. Friedman not only on teeth, but on jaw disorders as well.
April 2003 I was in a pedestrian vs. vehicle accident. I, the pedestrian, took out the windshield with the left back part of my head. Ever since then I struggled with severe jaw, face, head and ear pain known as TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder). At times it affected my ability to speak, eat and function. I watched my mom go thru two horrendous jaw surgeries and refused to do the same. I came to the decision that I would just live in pain for the rest of my life. It was until I was referred to Dr. Friedman that I realized there are other options besides face peeling, jaw breaking surgery. At age 33 Dr. Friedman diagnosed me with an arthritic left jaw joint and possible old undiagnosed injury to the jaw on top of the TMD.
It was decided that treatment would be splint therapy. He was able to lift my jaw off away from bone on bone creating a space where over time tissue would grow and cushion the joint. Within a month I was already relieved of so much pain. As time passed I noticed my jaw structure looking more symmetrical and normal. I can now eat, smile and live with no pain. Words cannot even begin to express how Dr. Friedman has changed my life.
The office holds high standards of cleanliness, is well organized, personable, and runs like a well-oiled machine. Dr. Friedman’s wife, Jessica, is amazing! She explains procedures in my terms so I can fully understand both medical and financial ends before anything is done. TMJ is the temporomandibular joint & often the root of pain for lots of patients. This pain can range from minor popping & clicking of the jaw, to severe pain, such as facial soreness, full feeling in the ears, ringing in the ears or even daily migraine headaches.
This particular patient is not the typical TMJ age of 28-45, but only 17. We started TMJ treatment on her about a year & a half ago. She came to MOD Squad complaining of all the severe symptoms mentioned above. As you can see from her before & after photos, her bite was not correctly aligned causing her lower jaw to be canted back into her ear canal causing all of her pain.
Her first step in treatment was to place a corrective TMJ orthopedic splint. She wore the splint 24/7 with weekly adjustments. Her pain was quickly alleviated by the splint. Once the patient was pain free & stable for 3 months in this bite position, Dr. Friedman placed her in traditional braces to move her teeth permanently to where the splint was holding her correct bite position. She is now pain free…actually now representing that smile on her face both inside and out.
